Billions Up in Flames as Oil Firms Burn Gas

Being and employee for a hydrocarbons producer, I can attest that gas flaring is always minimized. In general, being a marketable product, the business case is for the sale of gas and not based on its flaring.

IPS, 31 August 2007 - Energy producers waste about 40 billion dollars every year by burning off gas released at oil fields, says a new study commissioned by the World Bank.
